Viola Mae Keithley was born to Oscar and Mary (Mick) Keithley on April 18, 1931, in Atkinson, Nebraska. She grew up in the Atkinson area where she met her husband, Harold E. Colfack, at the Crystal Ballroom. Their first date was a motorcycle ride to Stuart, Nebraska. After dating a year and a half, they were married, April 20, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Atkinson. Viola and Harold lived for six months with his parents before moving to Washington State where they both worked in the strawberry fields and Harold attended barber college. They started their family in Washington and then returned to Nebraska. While busy raising three daughters and four sons, Viola also enjoyed drawing, textile painting, embroidering, and bowling. Her favorite season was Spring and favorite flowers were roses. When raising her young family she helped support them by selling chickens to restaurants and friends. Later she worked as a nurses aide in Burwell, Nebraska. In 1973 the family moved to Farmington, New Mexico where she continued to work as a nurses aide. Viola retired and later moved to Bloomfield, New Mexico where she lived until the death of her husband, Harold, in May of 2016. She then moved to Ord, Nebraska and later O’Neill, Nebraska living first with her son Robert and then in nursing homes until her death.

She is survived by her children, Diana Colfack and spouse, Chris Fyanes, of Box Elder, SD, Gene Colfack and wife, Judy, of Page, NE, Marilyn Sorensen and husband, Dennis, of Catoosa, OK, Fred Colfack and wife, Rita of Albuquerque, NM, Don Colfack, of Thoreau, NM, and Robert Colfack of Ord, NE. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters Delores Crist, Mary Dobrovolny, Alvina Rockford and her husband, Chet, her brother Floyd Keithley, 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 2016; daughter, Donna Reineke: Donna’s husband Gail; daughter-in-law, Candy, wife of Don Colfack; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill, Vern and Dutch; and sister, Fern Steinback.

I worked at the nursing home. She called me her little “red head” even though, I was not. She always had a special place in my heart and when I moved I went and told her, she said she would miss seeing me around even though I worked every other weekend. She was spunky and will be missed by all who knew her. So sorry for your loss. Shanette Wheeler

I have so many special memories of my time spent with Diana’s Mom. Playing bingo in Ord and Oneill were some of my favorites. She was always winning and we would sing B I N G O. I seldom won but she shared her winnings, a kind and generous soul. She will always hold a special place in my heart & I’ll always remember her telling me to drive safe because I have precious cargo..... Diana AND Newman! Whenever we spoke I told her that I loved her and she’d reply I LOVE YOU MORE. Rest In Peace and know that I’ll drive safe....BUT I think I LOVE YOU MORE💕
